The Rocky Horror Picture Show
For over 30 years of decadent delight, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has become the longest-running, fully interactive audience participation film in the world!
Many people have never been to a live, interactive cinematic experience before—or always wanted to and didn’t know what to expect. Well, here’s a quick run-down of what makes Rocky Horror so freakin’ amazing:
🎬 The Film
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (a.k.a. RHPS, Rocky Horror, or just “Rocky”) is a film based on a musical made in the early 1970s in England. A campy parody of B-sci-fi and horror flicks from the 40s–60s, it follows a sweet Middle-American couple (Brad & Janet) who stumble into an alien convention led by a flamboyant, cross-dressing doctor with Frankenstein-esque ambitions. The film flopped at release—but at midnight screenings, audiences gave it new life. The rest is history.
🎭 The Cast
The Rocky Horror experience is amplified by what’s called a shadow cast: live performers who pantomime the film in perfect synch while it plays on screen. Some focus on screen accuracy with spot-on costumes, makeup, and gestures. Others mix in quirks, improvisations, or over-the-top interpretations. Together, they create a one-of-a-kind, hilarious, and immersive live show.
🙌 The Audience
Yes, YOU are part of the show! Many fans come dressed as their favorite characters, while others flaunt their own outrageous style. The audience joins in with jokes, callbacks, sight gags, and a bit of raunchy, burlesque-style humor.
